The Songhuajiang minivans once were everywhere in Beijing, and in the entire north and northeast of China. They were used to transport everything, from humans to chicken from wood to eggs.

‘Songhuajiang’ was the name of a series of minivans manufactured by Hafei Motors. There were literally dozens of variants, each with its own designation. The full name of our white car is Hafei Songhuajiang HFJ6350.
The HFJ6350 we have here is a passenger-transport variant, rated at eight seats (!), including the driver. Great packaging indeed for a vehicle not even 3.5 meters long. They were light too, with a curb weight of just 840 kilo. Power came from a 0.8 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 33 hp and 52 Nm, mated to a four-speed manual ‘box.
The Songhuajiang brand has sadly disappeared. Hefei however still makes all sorts of minivans, but they are in general larger and more grown-up vehicles. The ‘old-school’ minivans, like the HFJ6350, are gone.
