This is one of my favorite Chinese cars: The Beijing BJ2022JC Brave Warrior, seen here in white in an alley in west Beijing. It was originally developed for the army, but over the years various civilian versions were launched as well.

The BJ2022JC Brave Warrior is a beautiful boxy vehicle, very basic design, purposeful in every aspect. Development of the army version started in the early 2000’s, under the Beijing-Jeep joint venture.
Production started in 2007. When Chrysler pulled out of the joint venture in 2009 due to the bankruptcy crisis Beijing Auto continued the project alone.
Over the years there have been dozens of military and civilian variants. This BJ2022JC we have here is basically a military car with some civilian sauce on it.
Power comes from a 3.2 liter six-cylinder turbo-diesel engine with 140hp and 380nm, mated to a 5-speed manual gearbox sending power to all four wheels.
This particular civilian version is sadly no longer available, but nowadays you can have one with a Saab engine. When new, price started around 190.000 yuan.
Big off road wheels look great but they are not original.
The seats are a bit more luxurious than on the military version, but otherwise no changes.
Check out those tiny lights, typical for military cars; big lights are a big target.
The BJ2022JC is made by a company called Beijing Auto Works. Their brand name is Beijing. Beijing Auto Works in turn is owned by a much larger company called Beijing Auto. So this badge reads: Beijing · Beijing Auto. The dot has fallen off. Beijing Auto in turn is part of an even larger company called the Beijing Auto Industry Corporation, or BAIC. Confusingly, this company is often abbreviated as Beijing Auto., which it isn’t.
Jeep badge on the bonnet is fake, but not totally untrue. Split window is manically cool.
