This is the manic BYD Tang, a Chinese SUV with 505 horsepower and a 0-100 acceleration time of just 4.9 seconds. The first generation BYD Tang launched back in 2015, and the new one is almost with us.

The interior with trendy after-market seat covers, gray-edged vents, a shiny center tunnel, a very thick steering wheel, and a 10 inch touch screen.
The BYD Tang has three engines, powering all wheels. It is a dual-mode hybrid, able to drive in pure-electric mode (EV) or in hybrid-electric mode (HEV).
The three engines are a 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine and and two electric motors. The petrol engine and one of the electric motors are located at the front, the second electric motor is located at the rear axle. Gearbox is a six-speed DCT, developed by BYD.
The output of the 2.0 turbo is 205hp and 320nm. The output of each electric motor is 150hp and 250nm. Total output stands at 505hp and 820nm. Just massive. See our full write-up on the power train here.
The only thing is lacked was style. Design was based on the old BYD S6 which in turn was a clone of a the first generation Lexus RX. Happily, the new one is much prettier.
The outgoing Tang is still available at dealers, and prices are going down almost as fast as the vehicle can drive. List price of the base model is 260.000 yuan, but it can be had at the dealer for as little as 220.000 yuan. That’s just nothing for a 500 hp monster SUV. Get one while you can…
Fast BYDs always have their 0-100 time on a badge on the back, and so does he Tang. Handy if you forgot it! The red character is ‘Tang’, named after a Chinese dynasty.
