A super clean W126 Mercedes-Benz 560 SEL. It is painted in light yellow, a typical shade for taxi’s in Germany, and it also has ultra basic wheel covers, and that is typical taxi too. And guess what? There were indeed W126 taxi’s, although I have’t been able to find a 560 SEL taxi.

Taxi or not, this 560 SEL is now in China. It is part of a collection owned by the owner of a nearby restaurant, who sadly wasn’t around when I was.
The Mercedes-Benz W126 S-Class was manufactured from 1979 until 1992. The top of the line 560 SEL debuted in 1985, and was made until 1991. The SEL models had a long wheelbase, extended by 14 centimeters compared to the standard car. The 560 SEL was powered by a indestructible 5.5 liter V8, good for 268 hp and 421 Nm. Amazingly, top speed was 250 kilometers per hour, in 1985! Gearbox was a 4-speed automatic.
A beautiful interior with the original leather sears and wood panels. It needs some work, but it isn’t bad for the years. And note that giant steering wheel!
Loads of space in the back of the SEL models.
Wide bumper win a large chrome panel on top. More chrome around the side and rear windows. Antenna is half up.
The masterfully crafted 560 SEL badge.
Chrysler Sebring convertible to the left.
Grill bigger than a today’s Mercedes-Maybach. The 560 SEL was a cruiser in your face.
