This little red beauty is a Jiangnan T11, a small electric car with a sporty body kit and roof rails. I found it on a car market in Tai’an in Shandong Province.

The Jiangnan T11 is based on the Jiangnan Alto, which in turn was based on the second generation Suzuki Alto. Jiangnan is a brand under Jiangnan Auto, they had a license from Suzuki to build the Alto for the Chinese market.
Production of the petrol version ended in 2016, and production of the T11 EV version ended last year. And that, somewhat sadly, was the end of the official second-generation Alto production in China.
There is still a lot of unofficial (illegal) production going on, with many smaller car makers making all sorts of Alto variants. We will come back to those cars in a later post.
Jiangnan Auto is nowadays a subsidiary of Zotye.
The interior is totally Jiangnan Alto, with cheap black plastics and fake wood. The shiny drive-selector unit was exclusive for the T11.
Power comes from an electric motor with 24 hp and 110 Nm, good for a top speed of 80 km/h and a range of 160 kilometers. Charging on 220 volt takes seven hours. Size: 3300/1405/1480, and wheelbase is 2175.
Price for all this pretty in 2017 started at 36.000 yuan after-subsidies, and that made the T11 one of the cheapest electric cars on the market at the time.
The T11 is rated as a five-seater. That will be cozy on the rear bench…
The body kit, including the rear-window spoiler, is aped from the Suzuki Alto Happy Prince, which was another Chinese Alto variant, this one made by the Changan-Suzuki joint venture.
Charging cable lying in the back.
Jiangan Auto.
Not a relic from another time, but a recent electric car from China.
