A massive Mercedes-Benz G400 CDI Grand Edition, seen at the Goldenport race track in Beijing, China. It looked brilliant in black, topped with loads of shiny stuff, including tacky covers over the lights and indicators.

The G400 CDI was manufactured from 2000 until 2006. The Grand Edition was a fully loaded limited edition, only sold in 2006. Power came from a 4.0 liter twin-turbocharged V8 diesel engine, good for 250 hp and 560 Nm.
The engine was mated to a five-speed automatic, sending power to all four wheels. Kerb weight was 2490 kilo. Top speed was a scary 180 km/h and 0-100 was gone in 10.3 seconds.
G-Clas Grand Edition. Hand Build in Graz Austria. The German line “Ein Fahrzeug macht seinen Weg”, which means “A vehicle makes its way”.
The interior with loads of dark black leather and dark brown wood. Depressing perhaps, until you kick the pedal to the metal.
The G400 CDI was never officially marketed in China, but some examples arrived via the gray market and other misty channels.
Mercedes-Benz did, and still does, sell other diesel-powered variants of the G-Class on the Chinese market.
License plate sits on a special frame on the right side of the spare wheel. There are two extra reversing lights under the bumper.
CDI stands for Common rail Direct Injection.
Probably the best looking G I have ever seen in China. It might be a bit over the top, but isn’t that the whole point of the thing..?
