This big blue barge is the Roewe RX8, a large seven-seat SUV from China with lots of horsepower. It looks impressive, with a super sized grille and lot of bling.
Roewe is a brand under the Shanghai Auto Industry Corporation (SAIC), better known as Shanghai Auto. The brand was born in 2006. Their first car, the Roewe 750, was based on the Rover 75. Hence the similarities in name and logo.
Over the years, Roewe has morphed into a midsize car maker, making an attractive range of middle class sedans and SUVs. SAIC also owns the MG and Maxus brands.
The Roewe RX launched in 2017. It is based on the same platform as the Maxus D90, but the Roewe is a more luxurious and high end car.
Power comes from a 2.0 turbocharged petrol engine with 224 hp and 360 Nm. Gearbox is a 6-speed automatic gearbox. Base versions are rear-wheel drive, high-end versions are all wheel drive.
Size Roewe RX8: 4932/1930/1810, and wheelbase is 2850.
Price starts at 168.800 and ends at 251.800 yuan.
The interior looks very nice with loads of real wood and leather. The screen measures 10 inch, and the infotainment system is powered by Alibaba AliOS.
The Roewe RX8 seats seven. This is the second row.
And this is the third with another two seats.
Rear not as impressive as the front. The lights seem a tad too large, but the shiny bumper looks great.
There is no relation anymore between engine and type. 30T, in red, stands for the 2.0 turbo.
Roewe has no plans yet to export the RX8. But the upcoming MG version will be exported to Europe.
