So hot it hurts; this BMW Z4 3.0 si coupe in a spicy kind of red, standing right under Beijing’s summer sun, almost exactly at noon.
The first generation E85 BMW Z4 coupe was made from 2002 until 2008. When it came out it was a controversial car, thanks to Chris Bangle’s ‘flame surfacing’ design. Nowadays it looks almost elegant, especially compared to its far larger successors.
The 3.0 si was the most powerful E85 bar for the M4. It was powered by a 3.0 six-in-line with an output of 261 hp and 315 Nm. The engine was mated to a 6-speed automatic, sending horses to the rear wheels. Zero to a hundred was gone in 5.5 seconds, and it topped out at 250 km/h.
The E85 BMW Z4 was officially sold in China, but sales were very slow, caused mostly by its incredible high price. In 2007 the 3.0 si coupe sold for a massive 70.000 yuan.
And that, somewhat oddly, made it more expensive than the Roadster with the same engine. The Roadster was also available with a 2.5, but the coupe was not.
The interior was just as special as the exterior, with a massive ‘floating; dashboard, painted here in a matte kind of gray. The leather seats are a bit worn, but a good cleanup will fix that easily.
The rear end was the most controversial parts of the controversial Z4. There was indeed a lot going on at the back, especially when seen from 3/4, and this fiery red color puts even more emphasis on the shoulder lines.
License plate is from Hubei province in central China, more than 1200 kilometer to southwest. That must have been a hell of ride..!
Same color as out watermark. Sweet.
