An ultra cool and ultra large Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer Edition, seen in the far east of Beijing under a cold winter sun. The massive American SUV was in a very good shape and totally original.
The second generation Ford Explorer was manufactured from 1995 until 2003. There was a 3-door version as well, but the big daddy was the giant 5-door, with a length of 4.8 meter.
The Explorer was available with a 4.0 V6 or a 5.0 V8, as in this car. The Windsor OHV V8 had an output of 210 hp and 380 Nm. It was mated to a four-speed automatic, sending horses to all four wheels.
Not just a bunch of any air bags, but second generation air bags.
Eddie Bauer® was a cross-branding top trim level, developed with the Eddie Bauer clothing store chain, which was quite a hip thing in the 1980’s and 1990’s. The edition includes these trendy stickers on the sides, a badge on the back, and really not much else.
Otherwise, the Eddie Bauer Edition trim level was pretty much the same as the Limited trim level. Not a bad thing; there were sofa-like leather seats and shiploads of luxurious goodies.
The second generation Ford Explorer was not officially sold in China, but some cars arrived via the gray market and other misty channels. The Eddie Bauer chain is completely unknown here, so I wonder if the owner of this great example really knows what he is driving.
The badge on the back has to do without the ®. All right, let’s copy it!
Note the complex mechanism for the rear windshield wiper.
All the badges on the Eddie Buaer were in gold.
A beautiful Ford on a beautiful Beijing day, painted in a pretty shade of blue.
