This pretty little off roader is a Beijing BJ2020T Ludi . I found it in the far west of Beijing, looking perfectly fine, fitted with the factory-standard bull bar.
The Beijing BJ2020T Ludi was manufactured by the Beijing-Jeep joint venture, a company most famous for their China-made Cherokee XJ.
But Beijing-Jeep also made a wide series of smaller vehicles, mostly variations of the iconic Beijing Auto Works BJ212. The Ludi BJ2020T was one of those. It was branded Beijing, so the full name of the car is Beijing-Jeep Beijing BJ2020T Ludi.
It arrived in 1996 and was developed for a younger audience, looking kinda hip with a shiny grille, soft top, wheel arches in a contrasting color, sporty wheels, and the aforementioned bull bar.
Power came from a 492Q BAW 2.5 liter four-cylinder petrol engine, good for 84 hp and 173 Nm. Gearbox was a 5-speed manual, sending horses to all four wheels. Size: 4026/1782/1913, and wheelbase was 2300.
Price in 1996 started at 67.000 yuan. Production continued until 2002. Sadly, it was not a big success, and the Beijing BJ2020T LudiĀ is a very rare sight on the road today. Beijing-Jeep continued to launch all sorts of new variants of the BJ212 all the way until 2009. But guess what? The original is still alive today!
Beijing badge above the license plate, BJC badge below. BJC stands for Beijing-Jeep Corporation.
