This is the brand new Audi Q5L S-Line, the sportiest variant of the new long-wheelbase Audi Q5L. I saw this latest stretched-out Audi at an Audi dealer in east Beijing.
The Audi Q5L is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture.
Wheelbase is extended by exactly 8.8 centimeters. All the extra space goes to the passengers in the rear. The stretch can best be seen by following the roof line from the B-pillar to the back.
Of course, long-wheelbase SUVs can be sporty too.
The 8.8 extra centimeters translate into a lot of extra space for the legs.
Dash is standard Q5, with a rather small standing screen, controlled not by touch, but with an old fashioned touch pad.
The Q5L is available in two kinds: the 40 TFSI powered by a 190 hp 2.0 turbo, and the 45 TFSI, powered by a 252 hp 2.0 turbo. Both engines are mated to a seven-speed DCT. The white car on the photos is the 40 TFSI quattro. Price for this model starts at 392.800 yuan.
The characters write: Yiqi Aodi. Yiqi is short for First Auto Works (FAW), and Aodi is the Chinese name for Audi. But the badge ain’r right. The joint venture’s name is FAW-Volkswagen, making both Volkswagen and Audi cars. Sometimes, the Audi part of the joint venture is referred to as FAW-Volkswagen Audi. But there isn’t any FAW-Audi. I guess Audi drivers don’t like any Volkswagen badges on their cars. Snobs. Earlier Audi’s made by the joint venture did have the correct name on the back.
