A fine red Volvo 850 GLE 2.5, seen in east Beijing with a shared Ofo-bike in front. The car was in a very good shape; well maintained and mostly original, with blacked-out windows and the…
… semi-unofficial deer logo, nicely matching the color of the Ofo bike.
The Volvo 850 was never officially exported to China, so seeing one is rare. Most of the 850’s I have seen in China were the sedan-version, the wagon is just ultra rare. This car is actually only the second I saw. The first one was at a time earlier, but I will post about it at a time later. Time, is such a fuuked up thingš±.
The original six-spoke alloys.
The Volvo 850 Estate was manufactured from 1993 until 1997. It was really the first of the ‘modern’ Volvo cars, based on the FWD Volvo P80 platform.
The GLE 2.5 version was powered by the famous 2.5 liter five-cylinder petrol engine, here good for 144 hp and 206 Nm. The engine was mated to a five-speed manual or four-speed automatic, sending horses to the front wheels.
Our GLE has the manual transmission. The interior seems fine, with the original cloth seats!
Rear seats look even better, looking almost unused.
The 850 was parked near a car-inspection place. Happily, it got through. i know that because some time later I met the owner of this great car, and he had another beautiful old Volvo.
