This car was so beautiful it almost made me run away. Almost. This is a fifth-generation pre-facelift Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT, looking so stylish and agile compared to the boat-like sixth generation.
The Maserati Quattroporte Sport GT was a sporty variant of the Maserati Quattroporte, it was made from 2003 until 2008.
There was a lot of special: a re-configured gearbox for faster shifting, firmer suspension, seven-spoke 20 inch wheels, a dark grille, Sport GT badges on the B-pillar, and Maserati trident badges on the C-pillar. The interior was dressed up too, with a sporty steering wheel, perforated aluminum pedals, and carbon fiber trim.
Just look at it… Rear windows darkened on this car.
Pininfarina badge, red brake calipers.
Power came from a Ferrari-developed 4.2 liter V8 with 395 hp and 460 Nm, mated to a 6-speed DuoSelect electro-hydraulic manual transmission. Top speed was 270 kilometers per hour, and 0-100 was gone in 5.4 seconds.
Best badge ever! The Sport GT is incredible rare. Only 667 units were made, for the whole world! Amazingly, the Sport GT was officially sold in China, from 2006 until 2008. Price in 2008 was 1.84 million yuan. Well, they sold at least one.
The Trident is really a cast iron badge, whereas Quattroporte is just a decal.
With red brake calipers.
Black leather with red stitches, carbon fiber center stack. A single cup holder. Gear selector is very small. Handbrake brilliantly integrated into center tunnel.
Much more leather in the back, and passengers could set up their own air conditioning with a panel in front of the bench, on the back on the center tunnel.
In 2008, this must have been an insanely special car to have. Nowadays, it is even more special. It was indeed, the very first Sport GT I ever saw in my life, and it was in Beijing.
I just cannot get enough of it. Timeless design. Subtle yet strong, with those big wheel arches and wide wheels. What a car. May she run the capital’s roads forever.
