Here we have a near-perfect Great Wall Safe RV, seen at the Agricultural Exhibition Center in Beijing. The ‘RV’ was the top-end variant of the Great Wall Safe, known in China as the Saifu. Except for the bull-bar, everything on the vehicle was factory-standard, including:
The side bars, the RV Great Wall decals, the big wheels with six-spoke alloys, the black wheel arch extenders, the side bars, the black windows, the shiny door handles, the shiny mirrors, the roof rack, and the rear-mounted spare wheel holder.
Note the small Safe badge under the antenna.
The Safe RV debuted in 2003 and continued until 2006. A brand new RV went for only 79.800 yuan. Power came from a 2.2 liter 4-cylinder with 78kw, good for a 130km/h top speed. Transmission was a five-speed manual, sending horses to all four wheels.
The engine was made by the ‘Great Wall Internal Combustion Engine Manufacturing Corporation’ and based on an old Toyota unit.
Shiny pipe tip fumes to the left. In period, the bright yellow color of the Safe RV was quite special. In those days, most other Chinese cheap-SUV makers painted their wares either black, brown, or dark shades of blue. The RV was also available in red, green and white.
The full factory designation was CC6460D. In the early 00’s all local carmakers were obliged by law to have these designations on their cars. Today it is only obligatory for commercial vehicles.
Something hit it on the right-front side, damaging the bumper and bull bar. Seems an easy fix to keep this great Great Wall in the greatest shape.
