This little blue wonder is the ORA iQ, an electric car for China with an interesting design. Note especially the fake air intakes on each side of the front, I guess those don’t help the aerodynamics very much.

The headlights look great.

ORA is a new electric vehicle brand under Great Wall Motors. The iQ was their first car, launched in late 2018. It is a compact crossover made to look like an SUV-coupe.

It is quite popular in China at the moment and sales are good.

Power comes from a single electric motor with 163 hp and 280 Nm. The motor is mated to a 47 kWh battery. Range is 401 kilometers NEDC. This old European standard is still widely used in China.

Price of the ORA iQ starts at 119.800 yuan or $17.420.

ORA iQ interior

The interior looks somewhat hip although the seats look rather worn already for such a new car. The instrument panel is digital, the touch screen measures 10.1 inches, and the shifter is located high-up on the center stack.

The ORA iQ has enough space for four adults.

Proportions are not ideal. It seems a bit too tall and the wheels are much too narrow. Chinese automakers love to fit tiny wheels on their cars in a bid to improve efficiency. But it looks ugly.

ORA letters very stylish in a black panel.

The Chinese name of ORA is 欧拉 (Oula).

Mirrors are giants. Once would expect the lower part to be blue and the upper part to be black, but ORA decided to do turn things around.
