This red beast is the Geely Baofeng GT Sport, seen parked on a pavement in north Beijing. The Baofeng (Leopard Wind) GT Sportwas a sporty cross-over thing based on the Geely Haoqing, aka Geely HQ.
The Geely HQ in turn was based on the Tianjin Xiali, which in another turn was based on the Daihatsu Charade.
The Geely Baofeng GT Sport came standard with everything you see. Bull-bars up front and at the back, a roof rack, sporty wheels, special head lights and best of all: two large wings up and down the rear window.
Power came from a China-made Toyota 1.3 liter 4-cylinder which pooped out 86hp. Transmission was a 5-speed manual. The Baofeng GT was made from 2004 until 2008. Price in 2004 was just 45.999 yuan.
Note the handwriting of the Sport badge. It is the same handwriting as the…
… Fashion badge on the Geely Meirenbao.
The wings at the back really make the look of the Baofeng GT Sport. The wing on the low end of the window is really quite large.
The characters write Baofeng. 16V + EPS for the engine. Old Geely badge looks really cool nowadays.
Note the early Changan-Suzuki Alto in the background.
