A red BAW Beijing BJ2021C 4×4 utility vehicle, seen overgrown at the Crab Island amusement park in Beijing. Crab Island used to be a great place for drinking, playing, swimming, and whatnot more. Sadly, most of the park was closed in late 2019. The area will be used for a housing project.
Next to the BAW Beijing BJ1021C stood another BAW BJ1021C. An employee told me they were once used by the park’s fire department, and abandoned when new equipment was bought.
The Beijing BJ1021C is one of many variants of the Beijing BJ212, an off-road utility vehcile manufactured by Beijing Auto Works (BAW), a subsidiary of Beijing Auto Industry Corporation (BAIC). Production of the Beijing BJ212 started in 1965 and continues until today.
On the bonnet: 北京 = Beijing. On the grille the BAW logo.
The Beijing BJ1021C was powered by a 2.5 (2.445) liter ‘BJ492’ four-cylinder petrol engine, good for 85 hp. The engine was mated to a four-speed manual gearbox, sending horses to all four wheels.
The designation badge below the windshield.
Steering wheel sits very far the right, almost in the middle. This is not the standard layout for sure; likely a fire truck modification. The steering wheel itself is factory-standard.
Nature takes over BAW.
The other car was covered up.
May they rest in a peace without fire.
