Here we have a dark red Dodge Caliber, seen on the streets of east Beijing. The Caliber was dusty but otherwise in a very good shape.
The interior looked fine too, with a very thick after-market steering wheel cover, seat covers, and a roll of kitchen paper in the cup holder.
The Dodge Caliber is a front-engine front-wheel drive crossover hatchback. It was manufactured from 2006 until 2011. It was based on the GS-paltform which was jointly developed with Mitsubishi. The platform underpinned various Dodge, Jeep, Chrysler, and Mitsubishi vehicles. Besides those, the platform also underpinned several PSA cars.
The Dodge Caliber was sold in China as an import between 2008 and 2011. In 2011, the only available variant was the 2.0 SXT, where SXT is a high end trim level. Power came from a 2.0 four-cylinder petrol engine with 156 hp and 190 Nm.
This engine was called ‘World’, short for World Gasoline Engine, an gasoline-engine family jointly developed by Chrysler, Mitsubishi, and Hyundai.
The 2.0 was mated to a CVT gearbox made by Japanese company Jatco, a subsidiary of Nissan. Jatco stands for Japanese Automatic Transmission COmpany.
Price in China of the Dodge Caliber 2.0 SXT started at 199.900 yuan, which actually wasn’t all that expensive for a comparatively large imported vehicle. Even so, Dodge didn’t sell a lot of ‘m and today the Caliber is a rather rare sight on the roads.
On the left: a very early Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ. More on that car in a later article!
