The China-made Ford S-Max was a slow seller and is therefore a rather rare sight on the road. But here we got one! A silver example that seemed somewhat abandoned, looking very dusty and with a deflated rear tire.
The first generation Ford S-Max was manufactured in China by Changan-Ford from 2007 until 2009, which was a very short production run. Only available engine was a 2.3 liter four-cylinder with an output of 160 hp and 205 Nm. The motor was mated to a six-speed automatic.
The S-Max was sold as ‘S-Max’ in China. But it also got an additional Chinese name: 麦柯斯 (Makesi). This is a phonetic translation of S-Max, with the ‘S’ at the end. Make = Max. Si = S.
The interior was high-spec with leather and nice materials. The Chinese S-Max was available with 5 or with 7 seats.
The S-Max arrived at a time when minivans were popular, especially as family cars. But it was hampered by the ascend of the SUV and by its high price. The base S-Max sold for a steep 194.800 yuan which was far more than similarly sized vehicles from the competition.
Note the deflated tire.

Headlights need urgent replacement!
I always thought it was a nice looking car but it just didn’t work out on the Chinese car market. The second-generation S-Max was is not manufactured in China and neither does Ford sell it as an import.
