A fully loaded Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ in China, seen in a residential area in north Beijing sometime in 2008. At the time it was a very popular vehicle in the Chinese capital and there were loads of shops that sold all sorts of accessories.
The add-ons on this car are partly factory-accessories partly after-market stuff. Where to begin..? Factory: bull bar, rear bull-bar, mudflaps, gold decals on the doors (those were factory-standard on some models), roof rack, sun visor above the front window, all the stickers on the rear except for the Dodge sticker on the rear window. The rest is after-market, including the wheel covers, which kind of work on the Cherokee!
The Cherokee XJ was made at Beijing-Jeep from 1984 until 2009 in trillions of different variants. The one we have here is a base BJ7250 model, powered by the 2.5 liter four-cylinder petrol engine with 135 hp. Horses went to the rear wheels only via a five-speed manual gearbox. I know, ’cause I had a BJ7250 too. More on my car in a later post.
