A Mitsubishi Montero SUV, seen on a compound parking lot in north east Beijing in 2013. The Montero was totally dressed up for heavy all-terrain work, with a winch, heightened suspension, fog lights, bonnet air ducts, and a snorkel.
The second generation Mitsubishi Montero (V20) was basically a Pajero with another name. The Montero name was mainly used in North American markets but at least one Chinese carmaker ‘produced‘ the Montero during the Crazy Car Production Days of Guangdong (CCPDoG™).
The ‘Jeep Corps’ sticker names the website FBLife. At the time, FBLife was a very popular site and forum for serious 4×4 enthusiasts. Their various groups also discussed all sorts of obscure China-made cars, so I really liked to hang out there online. But they also organized real-life events and they were present at lots of car shows and tuning shows that I visited in the 2000’s. I was a FAN. The website still exists but they don’t seem to be as alive as before, anymore.
These Discovery Channel stickers were widely available in 2013, on car markets and online. Folks even slapped ‘m on Chery QQ’s and such vehicles.
But this Montero looked seriously off-road ready. The script on the rear windshield is Tibetan. The ‘4.0 litre’ badge on the right is taken from a Beijing-Jeep Cherokee XJ. The Montero’s biggest motor was a 3.5 liter V6.
I really like how they fixed the license plate problem. Just bend it and it’ll work!
