When still in China, I loved to go to police equipment shows to check out new police cars. But whereas I was there just for fun, there were also real coppers shopping for new wheels for their department, and those coppers came by police cars.
So today we have a flock of real police cars on the police car show, with white police car license plates. This was in 2013. We start with this very pretty Beijing-Jeep Grand Cherokee police car, with the characters Jingcha (police) on the bonnet and the characters Sifa (judicature, for the Ministry of Justice) on the rear doors.
The Chinese police colors look great on the Grand Cherokee. The windows are darkened and it has a large police light-bar on the roof. It didn’t have any engine badges but it appeared to be the badass V8 model. On the right stands a Jiangling-Ford Transit police van but unfortunately I didn’t take any good pictures of it.
A Beijing-Hyundai Sonata police car. The Sonata was a very popular police sled, in service since at least 2005. The early Sonata police cars were powered by the 2.5 liter V6, later ones, like this one, mostly had the 2.0 under the bonnet.
Just nearby stood a non-police version of exactly the same car.
This is a very rare police car. I think I only saw a dozen or so of these Dongfeng-Nissan Bluebird EQ 7200-III police cars in Beijing. They were more common in central China. Power came from a 2.0 liter petrol.
A very black Jiangling-Ford Transit, facelifted version, as used by the Beijing SWAT team. They also have armored versions of the Transit but this one was a rather innocent version, with the same seats you would find in the civilian passenger-van variant.
This is a bit more seriously badass; a Sichuan FAW-Toyota Land Cruiser Prado, powered by a 2.7 liter V6. These were used by SWAT and other special police units all over China. The light bar seems extra large. There is a small stick-on antenna in front of said bar, and it has darkened windows and shiny mirror-house covers. How hip for a cop car. More police cars soon!
