A beautiful black Buick Skylark GS, seen on a sunny day in the great summer of 2011 in central Beijing. The Skylark was in a very good shape and clearly a daily driver.
The sixth generation Buick Skylark was Buick at its design-best. A streamlined and daring sedan with a standard two-tone paint job and a partly covered rear wheel. Note the GS badge imprinted on the rear door.
The 6th gen Skylark was manufactured from 1992 until 1998 with a facelift in 1996, our car is an original pre-facelifted example.
The Skylark was available with a 120hp 2.3 liter four-cylinder or a 160hp 3.1 liter V6, both mated to a 3-speed automatic, sending all horses to the front wheels. The GS was the top-of-the-line Skylark and was powered by the V6 engine.
Skylark badge on the front doors.
The Skylark was not officially sold in China but some arrived in country via other channels. The license plate area was made to fir American license plates and it too small for Chinese plates.
The Tamaroff badge refers to the Tamaroff Automotive Group of Detroit. They sold Buicks from 1969 until 2007, when the group lost their Buick franchise for somewhat murky reasons. I wonder if they know one of the Buick Skylarks they sold ended up in China! The Tamaroff Group is still alive today, selling Nissan and Honda cars.
The crazy pointed grille and bumper. License plate on the side.
