Here we have a cool Toyota Prius police car, seen in Beijing in 2011 with nice white 京·A1777 police license plates. The second generation Toyota Prius was quite popular as a police car in China, especially in the north.
The Prius was made in China by the FAW-Toyota joint venture in Changchun, capital of Jilin province, from 2003 until 2009. They were expensive and therefore not very popular but the police snapped up a lot of them. They probably got a good deal! The Toyota Prius police car wasn’t very useful as a chase car, however, as output of the hybrid system was just 110 hp.
Next to the Prius stood two Beijing-Hyundai police cars. These were powered by a 164 hp 2.5 liter V6, mated to a 4-speed automatic.
