A very spacey Volkswagen Golf R, seen in central Beijing next to Volkswagen’s China headquarters in 2010. The license plate is extra cool, as Volkswagen initially planned to call it the ‘R20’.
The wrap has many colors. Base color appears to be purple. Depending on light intensity and direction, the color changes to dark purple, blue purple, or light black. This kind of fascinating wraps were very popular back then. The good Golf is further dressed up with darkened windows, dark gray door handles and mirrors, and black window frames. The alloys are standard.
The MK6 Volkswagen R debuted in 2009. It was powered by a turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 266 hp and 350 Nm. The motor was mated to a six-speed DSG or a six-speed manual, sending horses to all wheels.
Volkswagen started selling the R in China in 2011 as an import, priced at a very steep 39.480 yuan. It proved to be a popular car, no matter the price, and on every car tuning show you can find many R’s in various states of tuning and taste. This wrapped example in Sanlitun surely looks fantastic.
