A Bentley Continental GT Convertible Design Series China, seen in east Beijing in 2012. The big Bentley looked brilliant in the afternoon sun, parked behind a shiny gray fence that somehow matches nicely with the car.
The Bentley Continental GT Design Series China arrived in 2010, in Coupe and Convertible forms. As the name implies, it was especially developed for the Chinese market. The Design Series China was intended to be a somewhat hip Bentley, aimed at a younger audience. Therefore, it was available with two new exterior colors: Orange Flame and Magenta Metallic. Our Beijing car is painted in the latter, and it is a great color for the Bentley.
The interior was dressed-up too, with three colors of leather and stitching in body color. The center stack and tunnel were fitted with piano black panels.
The roof of this car was black but buyers could spec other colors too, including beige and brown. The 7-twin spoke alloys were unique for the Design Series China.
Power came from the 6.0 W12 twin-turbocharged engine, good for an output of 560 hp and 650 Nm. The motor was mated to a 6-speed automatic, sending horses to all four wheels. Top speed of the Convertible was 312 kilometers per hour, and it did 0-100 in 5.2 seconds.
Bentley only made 60 examples of the Bentley Continental GT Design Series China, 15 coupes and 15 convertibles. Price of the Convertible started at a massive 4.88 million yuan. Lot of money for a slightly modified Bentley without any real collector’s value. But the Magenta Metallic color is truly fantastic.
