A Guangzhou-Honda Odyssey MPV, seen in Beijing in 2016, with Liaoning Province license plates. The good Honda was in a great shape, painted in a classy dark green, with the original wheel covers still on the car.
The second generation Honda Odyssey was made in Japan from 1999 until 2003. In China, is was made from 2002 until 2005 by the Guangzhou-Honda joint venture. Interestingly, they only made the pre-facelift model. The facelifted model, which debuted in Japan in 2002, was never produced in China.
The interior looked great. The wood panels and even the leather seats are still in a fine condition, the latter protected by comfy seat covers. The beige plastics are aging a little bit, and the Honda has lots of those! Note the green first generation Renault Scenic in the background.
The Guangzhou-Honda Odyssey was available with just one engine: a 2.3 liter four-cylinder with 150 hp and 206 Nm. The engine was mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Price in 2002 started at 268.000 yuan and ended at 298.000 yuan, which was actually a pretty decent price for a car of this size and with this power.
In the early days of Chinese-foreign joint ventures, many of the company names were written in a Chinese-English format. Here we have 广州-Honda, or Guangzhou-Honda. Similarly, there was 北京-Jeep, or Beijing-Jeep, and many more.
