A JAC Shuailing T8 pickup truck, seen at a small JAC shop in east Beijing in the mid winter of 2019, with some snow on the road and and ice on the car. The massive JAC was brand new and painted in a tasty shade of cherry red.
The Shuailing T8 is JAC’s largest crew cab pickup truck, sized 5325×1880×1830 with a 3090 wheelbase. Production started in 2018. It is a fine looking vehicle with lots of sporty black cladding.
The interior is quite luxurious for a pickup truck in this segment, with faux leather and lots of shiny trim, but the infotainment system looks outdated. The instrument binnacle has two large analog dials with a small screen in between.
The JAC Shuailing T8 is rated as a 5-seater with 3 seats in the back. It is available with a 150 hp 2.0 turbo diesel, a 211 hp 2.4 turbo, a naturally aspirated 147 hp 2.0, and a 190 hp 2.0 turb0. The last engine is the most common variant for T8’s sold in big cities, and out cherry red car has this motor under the bonnet. It has 290 Nm and it is mated to a 6-speed manual, sending horses to all four wheels.
Price for the Shuailing T8 2.0T petrol starts at just 97.800 yuan ($15.080), and that really ain’t much for such a large car. There is a lot of competition in China’s pickup truck market and margins are razor thin. In various export markets it is called JAC T8 / JAC T8 Pro/ JAC Frison T8. It is exported, among many others, to Iran, Mexico, and Russia.
The bed’s size is 1520×1520×470mm. JAC also offers a variant with a larged bed; 1810×1520×470, but I have never seen one of those on the road.
Characters: 帅铃T8, Shuailing T8, with T8 in red.
The front is very impressive with a giant four-bar shiny grille with a huge red JAC badge. Great machine! I will post some more pickup trucks later on.
