A very sweet Maserati GranTurismo 4.7L Sport, seen at a car market in Beijing in 2014. The sexy Italian coupe was made considerably more attractive with a shiny pink wrap and darkened head light visors.
The Maserati was under maintenance, it was missing its steering wheel and gear lever. Poor car.
The Maserati GranTurismo was made from 2007 until 2019. The Sport arrived in 2012 with a revised design and engine. The GranTurismo 4.7L Sport, as it was called in China, was powered by a 4.7 liter V8 engine with an output of 460 hp and 520 Nm. It was available with a six-speed automatic, as in this car, or with the ‘F1’ automated manual with flappy pedals. Top speed of the automatic model was 298 kilometers per hour, with a 0-100 of 4.8 seconds. It wasn’t cheap, price in 2012 was a very steep 2.46 million yuan.
These wheels, and brakes, have seen a lot of action! The wrap seems to be of a very high quality, and the wrapping work was top notch.
The wrap extends all over the car, which is so much better than the ugly partially wrapped cars we see so often. Wrapping the low-rear bumper must have been a difficult job, but it worked out, and it almost looks painted-on.
The GranTurismo was for a while a popular coupe in China, especially in the early years. You’d see them on the road of the big cities quite regularly, and often with a female at the wheel. But in the 2010’s the Maserati brand lost much of its appeal. Sales of the Ghibli and Levante were dramatic, and with that sales of the GranTurismo also suffered. In 2016 Maserati stopped selling it altogether.
And that is too bad because the GranTurismo was truly a beautiful car, especially in pink.
