A pretty Mercedes-Benz AMG G55 SUV, seen in Beijing in winter 2019. The good Mercedes was fitted with a vast Hamann body kit and with a set of classy HRE wheels. The body was painted in blue with darkened windows and black-shiny trim. The resulting result is certainly impressive.
Hamann is a German tuner, they sell lots of stuff for the W463 G-Class. Back in 2010 they launched the Hamann Typhoon, a 600 hp monster based on the AMG G55. But the blue car that I saw is just an optical-only Hamann.
Black HRE alloys with a shiny rim and AMG-branded red brake calipers.
The interior was untouched and in reasonable shape, with slightly worn black leather seats. Judging by the interior, and especially the dashboard, it seems to be a pretty old car, from the 2009 or older. The body kit masked that pretty well on the outside!
Mercedes-Benz only started selling the G-Class officially in China in 2007, although there was semi-official and non-official import long before that. So this car may as well be one of the earliest G55’s in country. Hamann is not officially represented in China but there are numerous shops that offer Hamann body kits. Earlier on we met a Hamann BMW E66 750 Li in Beijing.
Hamann Automobile Technik+Design badge on the rear door. This name and badge was patented in 2001 but Hamann isn’t using it anymore.
In 2009, the AMG G55 model was powered by a 5.5 liter turbocharged V8 engine, good for 507 hp and 700 Nm, which was totally crazy at the time, and still is, really. Top speed was 210 km/h and 0-100 only took 5.5 seconds.
Price in China started at 2.25 million yuan, but that’s without the Hamann stuff.
