Rolls-Royce Dawn Is A Massive Convertible In China

Rolls-Royce Dawn

A massive Rolls-Royce Dawn convertible, seen on the Tuning Tribe tuning street in Beijing, parked in front of a Porsche GT3 4.0 and a Ferrari 812 Superfast. The big Roller was painted in dark green and fitted with gray 7-spoke alloys. A very pretty car indeed.

It is genuinely huge: 5296/1947/1502, with a 3112 wheelbase and a 2550 kilo (!) curb weight. It is marketed as a 2+2, with just enough space in the back for kids or grandma.

Buyers can spec the interior in any way they dream. The owner of this car went for a fairly standard interior with some trim in exterior color, some creamy white, and some dark brown. The tiny screen shows the Dawn’s age, it debuted in 2015 and has been with us basically unchanged ever since. Rolls-Royce announced earlier this year that production would end in 2022, without a real successor in sight.

The Rolls-Royce Dawn is powered by a 6.6 liter twin-turbocharged V12 engine with an output of 571 hp and 820 Nm. The motor is mated to an eight-speed automatic sending all horses to the rear wheels.

Rolls-Royce started selling the Dawn in China from 2016. Current price of the Dawn is a very steep 5.2 million yuan or $810.000. The speedy Black Badge model, with 601 hp, costs exactly one million more. Price has gone up like crazy in recent years. In 2018 the Dawn, with the same motor and all, sold for ‘just’ 4.77 million yuan.

The high price, and the fact that it is a convertible, makes the Dawn a rare car in China. Over the years I have only seen a handful, including a very tasty purple car.
