A pretty Y31 Nissan Cedric Brougham VIP V6, seen on the parking lot of my apartment complex in Beijing in 2010. At the time, there were three of these Nissan Cedric sedans that I regularly saw on the lot. They looked very similar and had very old license plates. This one is 京C·P1889. Earlier on I posted about another the 京C·Q0773. I will post about the third Cedric soon.
Production of the seventh generation Y31 Nissan Cedric started in 1987 and ended in 1991. The Brougham VIP V6 was the top-spec variant of the Y31 Cedric. Power came from a 3.0 V6 engine with 153 horsepower, mated to a five-speed manual, sending horses to the rear wheels.
The Cedric was in a very good shape inside and out, well maintained and fully original. The VIP badges on these Cedric sedans are very cool. An oval with a gold rim, a red background, and gold VIP lettering in a classy font.
The interior was clean enough but the brown leather seats were worn out. The leather on the doors was in a better shape. Note the tall transmission lever!
An almost majestic car with a timeless design. Simple yet beautiful, with a modest dose of chrome and shine. The plastic wheel covers are perhaps a tad too modest.
Nissan used a lot of different fonts. Cedric in a classic handwritten silver font, V6 in a modern capital gold colored font, and…
… NISSAN in the Nissan font.
The Nissan Cedric was not officially sold in China in period but quite a few examples made it to Chinese shores via other channels. The Chinese government bought a few batches of these cars, which were mainly used by state-owned companies, including hotels, where they ferried customers to and from the airport.
