A gigantic Chrysler Concorde LX sedan, seen in the Chinese capital Beijing in 2019. The Concorde was in a fine shape, painted in a purple shade of black and fitted with the original alloy wheels, which were in dire need of a cleanup.
The second generation Chrysler Concorde was made from 1998 until 2004 with a facelift in 2002. Our black car is a post-facelift example. Earlier on we saw a pre-facelift Concorde. The car was 5.118 meters long but wheelbase was only 2.870. This is mostly visible by the truly enormous rear overhang.
No matter its size and American heritage, the Concorde is a front-wheel drive vehicle, powered by a 2.7, 3.3 or 3.5 liter V6 engine. Packaging was a bit odd. The Concorde LX was the base trim level car, powered by the 2.7.
The interior too was in need of a very big cleanup. The beige leather seats look dirty and worn, the beige plastics of the dashboard have turned almost black, and the faux wood doesn’t look good. Happily, it still has the original radio-CD player in place. The dials for the heating system are huge.
A long car makes for lots of space, but odd proportions are clearly visible here by looking at the relatively short door, especially at the bottom next to the bench.
The rear lights were gigantic and ran ‘around the corner’. Yet there was no place for the reverse light so that was dumped in the bumper.
Cars that are unofficially imported from the United States are easily recognizable by their license plate area, which is made for the US market, where license plates are much smaller than in China. Chinese plates thus don’t fit.
The Chrysler Concorde is a very rare car in China, especially in facelifted form. Over the many years I have lived in Beijing I only saw a handful.
