Here we have a great Audi 200 2.4 V6 sedan, seen in Beijing back in 2011. The Audi was in a perfect shape, almost as if it left the factory a day earlier. It is painted in black, which, I think, was the best color for this car, and it is fitted with the original factory wheels.
The Audi 200 was made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. This outfit also made the Audi 100. However, the 200 is way more rare, as it was only made from 1996 until 1999. The 100, for comparison, was produced from 1988 until 1999. Like in Europe, the 200 was basically a more upmarket and more luxurious variant of the Audi 100.
Even though it was only made for such a short time, it was available with no less than four different petrol engines: a 2.2 liter four, a 1.8 liter turbocharged four, a 2.4 liter V6, and a 2.6 liter V6.
The 2.4 liter V6 was unique for China and would later power various Audi-based Hongqi sedans. The engine had an output of 133 hp and 186 Nm, it was mated to a five-speed manual transmission sending horses to the front wheels. Size: 4891/1814/1430, with a 2687 wheelbase and a 1370 kg curb weight. Specs via.
Price of the FAW-Volkswagen Audi 2.4 V6 in 1998 was 435.000 yuan, which was steep for the times but the 200 was loaded with luxuries like leather seats and a radio-CD player. Until 2015 or so you could still see quite a few of these great Chinese-German sedans on the road, but nowadays most are sadly gone. Let’s hope this pretty black example is somewhere safe, it deserves a spot in a museum.
Thanks for posting this nice Audi 200. If you want to see a collection of early rare Audi’s you should visit this car repair shop in Miyun on Mixi Road, he and his mechanic are really cool guys. He has 5 D1 V8’s of which 2 SWB and 3 LWB, 2 Audi 80 and an Audi 100 CS import from US. Next to those he has 2 MB W140 V12 of which one is a Hong Kong import, a BMW E38 760i L7, an Audi A6 C6 V8, a Bertone Freeclimber (must be the only one in China), a BMW E32 750il and a MB G55 AMG. Not to far from this shop, close to the reservoir, there is also a second generation Audi 90 in poor shape on the premises of a restaurant. If you are interested I can send you links to pics I made during my visit.
