An Audi TT sporty car, seen on a quiet winter’s day in central Beijing in 2011. The car stood all alone just at the end of a bicycle lane. But that was cool because the Audi was cool. Cool + cool = a free parking place on bicycle lane.
The Audi TT was painted, it was not a wrap, in a dark shade of purple. It was further dressed up with a customized grille, darkened windows, chromed mirrors, black alloys, extra large brake discs, and panda-themed neck pillows on the inside.
The window frames are in black as well, and so is the Audi badge on the back.
Happily, the Audi is not a very wide car, so most bicycles may be able to pass bye on the left side. Lots of Beijing-Hyundai Elantra taxi’s in the background. Some of those might still be driving around today.
The second generation Audi TT was made from 2006 until 2014. There is no engine badge on this car but twin-double pipes point at a 2008-2011 2.0 TFSI model, which was powered by a 2.0 turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine with an output of 211 hp and 350 Nm.
Only gearbox option in China was a 6-speed DCT. Price was 519.000 yuan, which was a lot for such a small car with not so much power, so these TT’s are pretty rare out here. Too bad because it is a nice little racer, especially in purple. Note the panda neck pillow.
Nah, not cool to block the lane. I used to cycle commute and I hated these people.
