A Volkswagen Sagitar sedan, seen on a car market in Beijing in 2013. The Sagitar was wrapped in an interesting matte black wrap with glitter bits inside.
The wrap us of good quality and neatly applied over the entire car, including the bumpers, mirrors, and door handles. The windows are darkened a little bit with a chromed frame. The five-double spoke wheels were standard on the high-end trim levels.
The Volkswagen Sagitar is made in China by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture. Production started in 2006 and continues until today. The car we have here is a first generation Sagitar, which was based on the fifth generation Volkswagen Jetta. It was made from 2006 until 2012 with a facelift in 2010. Our car is a post-facelift example.
This sort of wrap was very popular for a short while in the late 2000’s. They mixed shiny glittering pieces into the wrap, and that looked really cool in the sun or into the lights at night. Strangely, after only a few years this sort of wraps kind of completely disappeared.
Here you can see the effect of the glitter in the October sun. In 2009, the Sagitar was available with three engines: a 100 hp 1.6, a 116 hp 1.4, and a 160 hp 1.8 turbo. The engines were mated to a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic. Prices started at 135.800 yuan. A wrap of this kind and quality cost around 10.000 yuan. With glitter.
