A Great Wall Voleex C10, seen in Beijing on a summer’s day. The Voleex C10 was in a great shape, painted in red-orange with sporty six-spoke wheels. The real eye catcher, however, is the famous grille with six shiny ‘teeth’.
The Voleex C10 debuted in 2010. At the time, Great Wall Motors had three model lines: Voleex for sedans and hatchbacks, Haval for SUVs, and Wingle for pickup trucks. The C10 was the base model of the Voleex line. Its Chinese name was Líng’ào (凌傲).
The interior was in dire need of a good cleanup. Everything looked dirty and black! How can one have a Voleex C10 in such a sorry state. The design was pretty cool though, with a sporty instrument binnacle and a wide center stack. The owner added a seat cover for the driver’s seat and a mobile phone holder.
The exterior looked way cleaner than the inside. Everything seemed in working order and original. Note the triangle-shaped brake light under the spoiler above the wing.
Characters: 长城汽车, Great Wall Motors.
The Voleex C10 was available with two four-cylinder gasoline engines: a 1.3 with 93 hp and 118 Nm and a 1.5 with 105 hp and 138 Nm. The 1.3 was mated to a 5-speed manual and the 1.5 to a 5-speed manual or a CVT.
The car we have here has the 1.5 under the bonnet and the 5-speed manual. Base price for this model in 2010 was 57.900 yuan, and that was a good deal for so much car.
Sadly, the design wasn’t liked very much and sales were slow. In 2011, just one year after its launch, Great Wall re-launched the C10 with a changed front-end design. Less controversial yet more boring. Great Wall subsequently launched the Voleex C20R, a cross version of the C10.
I have a very cool 1:18 model of the original Voleex C10. I’ll discuss it in an upcoming post!
