A rare hardtop Toyota Mark II was seen in Hohhot, China, 2018. It had a pretty two-tone colour body.
Yes. This was another RHD-only Toyota. And it was converted to LHD. It was an Hardtop version and we can recognize it from many differences between this and Sedan version(also called Cressida in LHD countries).
It was a 2.5 Grande version, which means that the engine of this car is 1JZ. And it’s not so obvious that our Mark II had not any B-pillars. Although this design (Hardtop) wasn’t safe, it was very popular in 1990s, Japan.
Besides, the two-tone colour was so rare and iconic. At that time I couldn’t take good pictures. So sad.
Another photo. Although most of Hardtop cars were only available in Japan, but car lovers that time had many ways to get their dream hardtops, including this illegally imported Mark II.
Sadly now the car is missing, I can’t find it any where. But it’s the first hardtop I shot, and the amazing feeling I saw the car that day is the feeling that I will never forget.
