A Porsche Cayenne Turbo SUV, seen in the great city of Shenzhen in Guangdong Province in 2014. The Porsche looked fantastic. It was painted in a rare factory color called Speed Yellow. It has darkened windows, a black roof, after-market sideboards, and black alloy wheels.
That’s the darkest rear window I have ever seen on a yellow Porsche! The owner also added gray pillars, contrasting nicely with the black windows. The roof rails and the door handles have the same gray color as the pillars. The sideboards are not really Porsche-like, but this kind of board was super popular in China in the 2000s. so you can find them on any car of that time.
The first generation Porsche Cayenne (9PA) was manufactured from 2002 until 2010, with a facelift in 2007. Our mellow yellow car is a post-facelift example. When it was launched, it came as a big shock for many. A Porsche SUV?!? Yes, it was, it became a giant success, and now nobody doubts the Cayenne anymore.
The Porsche Cayenne Turbo was powered by a 4.8 liter turbocharged V8 engine with an output of 500 hp and 700 Nm. The gearbox was a 6-speed AMT, sending horses to all four wheels. It was lightning fast: 275 km/h and 0-100 in 5.1 seconds. That speed came with thirst, the Cayenne Turbo drank 14.7 liters of fuel every 100 kilometers. But in those carefree days, nobody cared. Still, the Turbo is quite rare. In the 2000s China wasn’t yet booming like it would in the 2010s, so not that many folks had enough cash on hand for a 1.99 million yuan Porsche.
