The Geely Boyue L is a typical Chinese mid-size SUV. I met it on a summer’s day in Beijing. It seemed brand new, painted in a color called Orion Green, and fitted with aero wheels. Geely is selling many mid-size SUVs and crossovers, with overlap in price and size.
The Boyue L is positioned above the Geely Boyue, below the Geely Xingyue L, and next to the Geely Haoyue L. Finally, it is closely related to the Geely Galaxy L7. The Boyue L was launched in the Chinese car market in 2022.
The design of the Geely Boyue is nice but not super interesting, let alone exciting. But it does what it does, and that’s what most buyers of this kind of car care about. It has cool lights, black pillars, black wheel arches, and a black roof. The door handles are a tad old-school compared to most new Chinese cars, which usually have pop-out door handles.
The interior has more coolness: a clean look with light colors and hidden air vents. The centerpiece is the enormous 13.2-inch central touchscreen, one of the largest in the segment. It also has a 10.25-inch instrument panel. The owner added seat covers, neck pillows, and a steering wheel cover.
Geely offers various PHEV power trains for the Boyue L, ranging from a base 1.5 turbo to a 2.0 turbo to a highly advanced 1.5 turbo PHEV. The car we have here is a front-wheel drive 1.5-turbo base model, the trim level is called ‘Luxury’. The Output of the engine is 181 hp and 290 Nm, good for a top speed of 195 kilometers per hour. The gearbox is a 7-speed DCT. Fuel consumption is 6.3 liters per 100 kilometers.
The rear-light bar is a real looker. The GEELY lettering doesn’t seem properly aligned, the second E sits a little higher. Messy.
The Geeky Boyue L is a five-seat car, sized 4670x1900x1705, with a 2777 wheelbase and a 1571 kilo curb weight. How light an ICE car suddenly seems, compared to all those 2000+ kilo EVs!
The characters (博越, Boyue) are painted black, that’s quite rare in China. The L is black on a silver background.
These characters read 吉利汽车, Geely Qiche, Geely Auto. Within the Geely lineup, the Boyue L is the fifth best-selling model. In November 2023, it sold 11546 units. The Geely Boyue L Luxury is priced at just 125.700 yuan ($17.7K), which seems a good deal for the car you get.
