This impressive machine is a Trumpchi M8 Master Hybrid MPV. It is large, larger than life, perhaps, and loaded with super shiny bling. The grille is enormous, mirroring the sun, with 10 vertical slats.
I saw the M8 at a Trumpchi shop in one of my favorite dealer areas in east Beijing. Next door is a Changan shop and Ford is a bit further. Sadly, many dealers have closed and the entire area will soon be closed to make room for apartment buildings and malls.
Trumpchi is a brand name under GAC. The car’s type name is M8. Master is the trim level. Hybrid is the power train (HEV). Trumpchi also sells a patrol version, simply called M8, and a PHEV version called E8. The car that I saw is a 2023 model.
The M8 is huge: 5212/1893/1823, with a 3070 wheelbase and a 2060 kg curb weight. It has seven seats in a 2/2/3 configuration, with a luggage space of 516 kg. Truly gigantic! It is luxurious too, with high-end materials and fancy white-leather seats. The dash has a 12.3-inch driver’s display and a 14.6-inch touch screen.
Power! The 2023 M8 Master Hybrid is a front-wheel drive car. The HEV powertrain consists of: a 2.0 turbo ICE with 190 hp and 300 Nm, an electric motor with 181 hp and 270 Nm, and an E-CVT. The top speed is limited to 180 km/h and the fuel consumption is 5.42 liter per 100 kilometers.
The second row with two ultra-wide captain seats. Each seat has a control panel for the air conditioning and to control the infotainment shown on the large fold-down screen hanging from the roof. There are cup holders and a small refrigerator.
The rear is almost as impressive as the front, with a spoiler above the rear window, extra large light units, and still more bling. The only let-down is the relatively small 18-inch tires. The color of this car is called Palace Gold.
The GAC logo is in the middle, and the MASTER trim level name is in the bumper.

The 2023 Trumpchi M8 Master Hybrid sold for 299.800 yuan or $41K. The grille alone is worth that money, and more. The M8 is a truly crazy machine, in a good way, overdone and extravagant to the max, with loads of luxury and a powerful powertrain. The MPV market in China is so alive…
