The Chery eQ is a small electric hatchback. It was based on the second-generation Chery QQ. The eQ looked the same as the QQ. The only difference was the blue lining around the fog lights in the bumpers. At the time, blue was the preferred theme color for New Energy Vehicles (NEVs) in China.
Interior of the Chery eQ
The interior of the eQ saw some more changes. The center tunnel was all-new, with a large and shiny drive-selector dial. The eQ also had a digital driver’s display with super funky graphics and a small touchscreen to control the electric system.
And finally, it had blue trim atop the dashboard. The funky seats were standard and orange was a factory color. Kleenex alarm! Note the purple tissue box in the storage space on the dashboard in front of the passenger.
The switches for the windows are located directly in front of the drive selector.
The QQ and eQ were small but rather spacious inside. The owner of this car added fancy red carpets.
Specifications of the Chery eQ
Power! The Chery eQ is a single-motor front-wheel drive car. The output of the electric motor is 41.8 kW and 150 Nm. The top speed is 100 km/h. It has a ternary lithium battery with a 23.6 kWh capacity. The range is 200 kilometers. Size: 3564/1620/1527, 2240, with an 1128 kg curb weight.
How expensive?!
The Chery eQ debuted in 2015, priced at 159.900 yuan, which was expensive. The ICE-powered Chery QQ with a 51 kW 1.0-liter 3-pot sold from 37.900 yuan! So for one eQ you could have 4.2 QQ’s. The eQ is thus very rare. Most were purchased by companies, but the one that I saw was a private car. Characters on the left side: 奇瑞汽车, Qíruì Qìchē, Chery Automobile.
Production ended in 2017. The successor of the Chery eQ was the Chery eQ1, which, after many name changes and updates, is still around today.
The Chery eQ was a cool and early small electric car. It was, perhaps, a bit too early, and way too expensive compared to the ICE version which didn’t use much fuel anyway. Still, it is great to see one in this condition on the road in China.
