Cadillac DeVille Six-door Stretched Limousine In China

This Cadillac DeVille stretched limousine was spotted at a small car repair place in Beijing in 2018. The big Cadillac was dusty and dirty but otherwise in good shape. Interestingly, it had six doors.

GM produced the eight-generation Cadillac DeVille from 1999 until 2005. The DeVille was based on the General Motors G platform. It is a front-wheel drive car with a 4.6-liter Northstar V8 engine producing 275 hp and 407 Nm. Cadillac did not officially sell the DeVille in China.

American stretched limousines were popular in China in the 1990s and 2000s. Most were imported via the parallel market. Wedding companies and large hotels purchased most of them. The six-door configuration of this car is unusual, most had four doors.

S&S Coach Company

The limousine has a vinyl roof and darkened windows. The hub caps are missing. Many companies converted Cadillac sedans into stretched limousines. S&S Coach Company, famous for building six-door limos, including the DeVille, converted the car in the photos. Nowadays, many Chinese companies can convert sedans to limousines, so there isn’t much import anymore.

Interior

The interior is luxurious, with black leather seats, red carpets, and a boatload of fake wood. It has an after-market audio-video system for music and entertainment. Cadillac mounted the gear lever for the four-speed automatic gearbox on the steering wheel column.

Poor car! They used the rear compartment for storage. All sorts of mess. But the leather bench seems in good shape. Note the classy door handles.

The conversion added about 2 meters of length. The rear light covers are a bit faded. It also had four exhaust pipes. I bet the sound was great.

Someone likely added this Type S badge in China, borrowing it from a Honda.

This limo must have seen many marriages and other festivities. When I got married in China, they paraded me around town in a stretched Hummer. It was a great experience, but a Hummer isn’t as classy as this fine big Cadillac.
