Tank 300 Wind and Forest Cavalry Edition – A Topfire Special In China

Tank 300

This is the Tank 300 Wind and Forest Cavalry, a special edition of the Tank 300, co-created with Topfire. The big SUV looked impressive, painted in Lava Gray, with big black bumpers and giant wheels.

Tank is a Chinese SUV brand owned by Great Wall Motor (GWM). The Chinese name is 坦克, Tǎnkè, Tank. The Tank 300 is a massively popular all-wheel drive off-road-capable SUV, launched in 2020. Since then, Tank has launched dozens of variants and sub-series.

Topfire

Topfire is a famous Chinese company, selling off-road accessories. The company also works together with various brands to create special editions.  The Chinese name is 中国顶火, Zhōngguó Dǐnghuǒ, literally: China (is on) Fire. The company has been working with GWM since 2008, creating various specials for the Haval and Tank brands.

Tank launched the Wind and Forest Cavalry Edition in 2021. The modifications include: raised and strengthened suspension, a completely redesigned hood with 4 air intakes and 2 air vents, a redesigned grille, redesigned bumpers, running boards, ultra-wide wheel arches, off-road tires, a large roof rack, and Topfire branding all over the vehicle.

Note the Brauhaus Restaurant in the background. That is one of the oldest Germany-themed Chinese-owned restaurants in south Beijing. I have been there many times. It serves local beer, imported German beer, and lots of greasy sausages with a misty origin.

Specifications

The engine of the Tank 300 Wind and Forest Cavalry Edition is a 2.0 turbo with an output of 167 kW (227 hp) and 387 Nm. The gearbox is an 8-speed automatic, all-wheel drive. The top speed is 160 km/h.

Interior

Tank 300 - interior.

Topfire didn’t make any changes to the interior, bar for the fancy black leather seats. The Tank 300 has a twin-12.3-inch driver’s display and touchscreen. It has 3 large air vents in the middle and a gun-like gear lever.

There is a sunroof above the front seats, but not in the back. But it is a spacious cabin. The size of the Tank 300 is 4734/2020/1947, with a 2750 wheelbase and a 2300 kilo curb weight.

The Wind and Forest Cavalry Edition is seriously capable off-road, it is based on a body-on-frame chassis with 3 differential locks. It has an approach angle of 34 degrees and a departure angle of 35 degrees. The maximum gradeability is 70%.  Note the optional tow hook.

The Tank 300 Wind and Forest Cavalry Edition was only marketed for two years, so it is pretty rare. In 2021, it sold for 270.800 yuan. Much more on Topfire and Tank in upcoming posts!
