About China's Coolest Cars
The Geely Boyue L is a typical Chinese mid-size SUV. I met it on a summer’s day in Beijing. It seemed brand new, painted in a color called Orion Green, and fitted with aero wheels. Geely is selling many mid-size SUVs and crossovers, with overlap in price and size.

This is a JAC Yiwei 3, as seen in the Chinese capital Beijing. Yiwei (钇为) is a new EV brand under JAC Motors. The brand was launched in 2023 and the Yiwei 3 is their first car. It is a cool, cute-looking hatchback with large round headlights, large mirrors, and aero wheels.

Here we have a Neta U, a cool Chinese full-electric crossover, fitted with green NEV license plates. NEV stands for New Energy Vehicle, a Chinese vehicle category that includes EVs, PHEVs & EREVs, and FCEVs. The car that I saw is painted in a color called (translated): Star Diamond Phantom Powder. Chinese car makers love to outdo one another when it comes to poetic color names. This must be one of the best. I’d simply call it light purple. But for sure, Star Diamond Phantom Powder is much better.

This is a Ford Evos, a China-only crossover coupe with a fastback body. The Evos is a sharp-looking car, but a bit of an odd one, mixing elements of a sedan, a hatchback, and a station wagon.

Here we have a Lexus LS400, seen in the Chinese capital Beijing in 2016. The sophisticated Japanese sedan is in good shape for its age, painted in a classy color called ‘Dark Blue Pearl’. The windows are not tinted or darkened for a change, and the car still has its original alloy wheels.

This is a Leap C11, a cool Chinese full-electric SUV, I saw it in Beijing this summer on a hot and rainy day. The C11 is an aerodynamic car with a drag coefficient of just 0.282 Cd. The more slippery the car is, the longer the range.
