Advertisement seen in a shop in the Sanlitun area in Beijing, frequently visited by foreigners. I saw it back in 2011 but the shop still exists today. A Chinese company offered a Roewe 750 for rent, describing the poor car as ‘British Old Fashion’. That must hurt! But it was not totally untrue.

On that windy day the stars aligned so I could find a car of a special kind. That car was a Ford Windstar, seen in the suburbs of Beijing on November 30, 2017. The Windstar seemed abandoned and was covered in a thick layer of winter’s dust.

A Mercedes-Benz SLK200 Kompressor, seen in Beijing in 2012. The sporty Merc’ was made sportier with a nice body kit including a front spoiler and side skirts. It had darkened windows and stood on five-spoke gray alloy wheels.

A fourth generation Dodge Caravan minivan, seen in Beijing in 2018. The Caravan was in a great shape for its years, painted in black with darkened windows and with the original factory wheels. This Caravan was manufactured in China by SouEast under a deal with Chrysler.

A pretty BAW Zhanqi BJ2033CHB1 utility vehicle, seen in Beijing in 2017. The good Zhangqi was painted in wine-red, which looked very nice, and in a fine overall shape. The wheels were factory standard, the bull bar and side bar were factory options.
