About China's Coolest Cars
Back in 2012 I paid a visit to a Chery dealer in Beijing. I visited lots of dealers in those days for various consultancy jobs I had. I didn’t always have enough time to take photos but that day I was really happy to see this pretty Chery Cowin 2 liftback sedan. It was painted in black with a gray interior, fitted with the factory standard five-spoke sporty alloys.

An incredible cool and very manly Beijing-Jeep Beijing BJ2020SG, seen on the streets of Beijing, capital of China, in 2012. The great Beijing was dusty and dirty, just how it should be, and looked like it just arrived from up mountain.

This fantastic machine is a real Shifeng Fengrui II, seen in the countryside to the north of Beijing. The Shifeng Fengrui II is a heavy motorized 3-wheeler with a streamlined cabin. Vehicles like these are all over the place in rural areas, very typical farmland workhorses.

A very fine Volvo S60 2.4 sedan, seen in Beijing in 2017. The old Swedish sled was in great shape for its age, with smooth paint, and without any visible rust or rot. The alloy wheels are original.

A very nice Volkswagen Passat GL, seen in the far east of Beijing in 2015. The vehicle appeared to be in a pretty good shape although it seemed that the black paint was an over-spray.

A brand new Lada Niva Urban 4×4, seen in east Beijing in 2018. The Russian sled looked great in white, with a black grille and large wheels with sporty alloys.
Back in the old days, when China and the Soviet Union barter-traded lots of goods, small numbers Lada Niva SUVs were imported into China. They were mainly sold to the government.

Here we have a yellow Geely GLeagle Panda, a car just as mellow as the panda bear. GLeagle was one of Geely’s many brands in the 2000’s, it has since disappeared. The Panda was designed to look like a panda. The headlights are the eyes, the GLeagle logo is the nose, and the grille is the beast’s beak.

Here we have a pretty Geely Merrie Uliou MR7130X1, seen in Beijing in 2012. The little sedan was in a fine general shape but was missing a part of its grille. The sporty alloys are original. The Geely Merrie Uliou was based on the Geely Merrie hatchback, which was based on the Tianjin Xiali, which in turn was based on the Daihatsu Charade.

A perfect Porsche Boxster, seen in Beijing in 2018. The Porsche was in a superb shape, looking nearly new. The first generation Porsche Boxster is a real rarity in China, as it wasn’t officially sold here.
