This MK2 Jetta was THE ultimate taxi in China!

The MK2 Volkswagen Jetta can be called the people’s car of China, its success together with the Santana in the Chinese market from the early 90s till well into the millennium the reason that Volkswagen is currently the most popular-selling car brand in China…although with the way ID4 sales are going this might be at risk in the future.

Anyways, the Jetta was also for a long time the most popular taxi-model in mainland China, and I remember very well often getting rides in examples pushing  over 800,000km (600k miles)!

One of the oddest car ever made by the FAW-Volkswagen joint venture was the Bora-Golf, seen here in a very pretty shade of red in Beijing in 2011. It was actually called the Volkswagen Bora HS and based on the Mk4 Volkswagen Golf, it was made from 2006 until 2009. The HS had the front and rear lights of the facelifted first generation China-made Bora.

Volkswagen New Beetle Olympic Games Arty Farty Editions

Volkswagen was a sponsor of the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. To celebrate handing over hundreds of millions of dollars to enable exciting sports like weight lifting and volleyball, Volkswagen had dressed up a bunch of New Beetles in arty farty Olympic wraps. The cars were lined up at Volkswagen’s China headquarters in the Sanlitun District in Beijing.

The New Beetle on the first pic came with a somewhat traditional Chinese painting-style tree and flower wrap, combined with a Beijing 2008 Olympics logo and a bar code.

Mk4 Volkswagen Polo Is A Rare Sedan In China

A red Volkswagen Polo sedan, seen parked at a charging station in Beijing in 2017. Well, Volkswagen still doesn’t make an electric Polo even today, so we can be sure our red car is in the wrong lot. Happily, it was in a reasonable shape for its years. Paint was fading a bit, some damage here and there, and the original wheel covers were gone. But that’s okay, as black steelies always look great on red cars.
