BYD Song Max Is A Classy Chinese MPV

A BYD Song Max, seen in Beijing in 2019. The Song Max is a compact MPV, launched in 2007. It is a classy and stylish car, designed by Wolfgang Egger, who earlier in his life worked for Alfa Romeo and Audi. The lights are especially nice, large and fitted with five separate LED’s. The lights morph nicely into the grille. This design language was called ‘Dragon Face’.

A Chery eQ1, seen in central Beijing in 2019. The Chery eQ1 is a cool and almost cute electric mini car. Design is interesting, with enormous headlines, with blue lenses, dominating the front. The body is painted in a dual-color scheme, with the top part always in white.

Back in 2004 I visited my first Beijing Auto Show. Then the show was still held at the China International Exhibition Center in the center of the city, so I could go by bicycle, a 15-minute ride from my home. In 2004 Geely was just starting to make its mark in China. They had a small booth inside the exhibition hall and a much larger booth outside, where I spend quite some time checking out all the new cars!

A majestic Kia Enterprise sedan, seen at the 2004 Beijing Auto Show. The enormous Korean limousine carried VIPs and stopped right at the front door of the main exhibition hall. Later I was told the VIP was none other than the president of Hyundai-Kia in China. The Enterprise has 京A·16162 black license plates.
